FAQ

1. How do I identify my engine and drive?

a. How many cylinders does the engine have and what configuration is it? E.g. Inline 4, V6, V8 etc.

b. What is the engine’s horsepower?

c. Does the engine run on petrol (gasoline) or diesel?

d. What year is the boat? If this is not known, please have a look for the boat’s hull number which can normally be found around the starboard transom area either above or below the rubbing strip. This hull number should be found on all boats manufactured since 1975 and the last two digits of the number relate to the year of production.

For sterndrives, sail-drives and gearboxes:

We can usually get a good idea of the drive or gearbox once we have determined the engine it is fitted to. However, there should be an identification plate on the unit in question. For gearboxes and sail-drives, this is located on the top of the drive and may have been painted over. For sterndrives, have a close look all over the drive for any markings. If none can be found, please contact us for further information.
